Dwayne learned the value of hard work early in life. Raised by a single mother and grandmother, he was educated at Bodden Town Primary School, Cayman Islands Middle School and Cayman Islands High School. He began working at age 9 and hasn’t stopped since. Recognizing the value of a good education, Dwayne excelled in his studies and earned his aviation certification from the UK Department for Transport. He spent 16 years with Cayman Airways and was promoted to Airport Manager, responsible for coordinating eight major airlines and serving numerous international and regional cities.
Dwayne is a strong advocate for small business and youth development. While at Cayman Airways, he seized the need for change and implemented a system to lower costs and improve efficiency. After leaving the airline, he established APS Security, and has since launched several successful companies. He has always demonstrated a strong commitment to employing and developing Caymanians. Dwayne remains committed to Bodden Town and will bring the same mix of common sense leadership and job creation to his community. Dwayne also participates in youth mentoring programmes, having been a member of the Bodden Town Football Club for more than twenty years and serving in various capacities, including vice president.
Dwayne knows how to get government moving. For many years, Dwayne has shown a keen interest in the political affairs of the country, and played an integral role with Mark Scotland’s 2005 campaign committee. He was also key supporter of the recent Be Loud, Be Proud voter registration drive. Dwayne was appointed to serve on the Health Insurance Commission Board, Chamber of Commerce Business Expo Board, Prison Inspection Board and Permanent Residency and Status Board. Those experiences have prepared him to contribute as an elected representative. Dwayne attends Bodden Town Webster Memorial United Church with his wife Melanie and their three children Zachary, Tahiti and Dior.
